Description
Common name: Common Hatchetfish
Latin name: Gasteropelecus sternicla
Maximum size: 5-7cm
Water chemistry: pH: 6.0-7.5; Hardness: soft to medium hard (dH: 5-20); Temperature: 23-28 C
Origin: River systems in Guiana, Venezuela & Peru, South America.
Diet: Feeds exclusively from the surface. Will take all types of life & frozen food, good quality pellet and flake food (such as Hikari Micro pellets).
Can be kept with similarly-sized, peaceful species that enjoy the same water conditions. Very peaceful but it can be nervous and shy and will not compete well with boisterous species for food. Good tankmates include tetras, dwarf cichlids and catfish such as Corydoras and Loricariids. We recommend to buy at least 6 fish, to make them feel secure.
