However certain items and product types are excluded from this basic shipping offer, those are:

  • Live fish and shrimp
  • Other livestock at management’s discretion
  • Selected bulky items (e.g. substrate)
  • Selected fragile items (e.g. light tubes, tanks)

You will know if you have selected excluded items as the basic shipping option will disappear from the postage calculator and in the checkout process. If you require an estimate for live goods/fish shipping, please see the livestock shipping conditions below.

Please note that we are happy to combine livestock and dry goods orders where it is cheaper for the customer. If you need to contact us regarding shipping costs, please don’t hesitate to do so. One of our friendly staff will contact you as soon as they can to work out the best freight deal for your order.

Livestock Shipping Conditions

Second Nature Aquariums ships all live good orders by express couriers. Livestock can be delivered either straight to your door or to your closest airport. The Courier Express service for livestock and delivery to your door could take up to 48 hours for all major metropolitan areas. We send most of our orders using Startrack couriers. In some areas, door to door delivery is not available and you may have to pick up from your nearest airport, depot or Post Office. Note that some regional destinations are outside of this express courier range and may take more than 48hrs for delivery.

For some destinations road transit may be used as opposed to air express.

Freight costs vary substantially depending on weight, box size and delivery location.

In order to provide the best value to our customers, freight costs for any order including live goods will be calculated automatically. You are welcome to continue payment of your order. We will contact you as soon as we can with a changed freight costs/additional freight charges.

Alternatively you may remove the live goods from your order and process the dry goods as a separate transaction. Although we are happy to combine shipping of live and dry orders, it is not always the cheapest method. Usually we send your dry goods as a separate order via Australia Post.

Livestock orders must be placed by 5pm Sunday (AEDT) so that they can be shipped in the next available shipping period. Shipping days for livestock orders are Monday and Tuesday each week, to be able to guarantee a save arrival of your order before the weekend.

If your order is placed after 5pm Sunday, your order would need to be sent the following shipping week, as we often have to fast fish for a few days before we send them so they don’t pollute the bags too much (polluted bag water = dead fish). As such, you may experience delays in the dispatch of your order if you submit it during or right before the shipping period for a given week. Your order will then be shipped the following week.

We would also recommend filling up the box, when placing a livestock order, with additional fish, plants or other dry goods to split the shipping costs. As for example a 5kg box (standard shipping box) can hold 6-7medium bags, the larger 20kg shipping box around 12-15 medium bags – we are happy to combine livestock with plants and/or dry goods, as long as they fit in the box.
