Origin: The perch is a native freshwater fish. Jade Perch were once widespread and abundant throughout most of the Murray-Darling river system. They have now declined to low numbers or disappeared from most of their former range. Only one remaining secure and self sustaining population occurs in NSW in the central Murray River downstream. Great fish for hobby backyard aquaponic systems, stocked as fingerling it reaches 350 grams easily after about 12-15 months and is a good plate size whole fish. Silver perch are omnivores, consuming zooplankton, small crustaceans, aquatic insects, molluscs, algae and plant material.
