Description
Common name: Spiny Eel, Lesser Spiny Eel
Latin name: Macrognathus aculeatus
Maximum size: 25-35cm
Water chemistry: pH: 6.0-7.8; Hardness: soft to medium hard (dH: 5-20); Temperature: 23-28 C
Origin: South-east Asia.
Diet: Spiny eels are foraging predators in nature feeding on a variety of worms, insects, crustaceans and small fish. Will take all types of life & frozen food, good quality pellet and flake food (such as New Life Spectrum).
Offer a sand substrate since the fish likes to burrow, plants are best left out since the eels will continually uproot them. They are not fussy of water parameters but the extremes of hardness and pH should be avoided, neutral water is best.
